I have recently bought a new Windows 8 laptop and it comes with a backlight-powered keyboard, so when I heard that problems with this kind of keyboards have been reported online, I started analyzing them with care. Actually, a good friend of mine has been complaining that after the Windows 8.1 update,  the backlit keyboard seems stuck in battery mode. Here are some more problems reported. Somebody has problems with their MacBookAir, as we can see, and this is not a first for Apple users. We have previously reported that Windows 8.1 Install Fails on New 2013 Retina MacBook and there were reported several iTunes crashes with Windows 8.1, as well. This time, an Asus owner is complaining: And the problem is also affecting a Dell user. Recently, Dell XPS 15 owners have been reporting Shutdown Problems in Windows 8.1. Also, what I’d suggest is to check your power settings, as there’s a chance your laptop might be going in idle mode. Besides this, if you know any working fixes, do let us know and we will share it with the community.

Try to switch to a separate keyboard [Update]

If you cannot fix the issue you might seriously think about getting a new, separate keyboard. I had the same problem and right now I am writing from a Logitech K780 and must say that it’s even better for my laptop since I don’t have to tap directly on its surface thus not producing any vibrations, which are bad for HDD. I chose this path because I am too lazy to search for a fix, and bought this keyboard model. If you see the things as I do, here are some handpicked keyboard lists for specific purposes:

Backlit keyboards Mini Wireless keyboards Best Bluetooth keyboards Best mechanical (for gamers) Best spill resistant keyboards (do you eat while sitting in front of your PC?)

We hope that you will find the right solution for you. Let us know in the comments section how did you solve this problem.
